Whether it's pictures of surfers swimming through a sea of plastic, the banning of micro-beads in cosmetics in 2016,or the declining use of plastic straws more recently, you'll struggle to have missed the growing conversations about plastic.

With all the focus on plastic bags and straws, you might be surprised to find that one of the biggest contributors to environmental plastic pollution is clothing that's made using plastic - recycled or otherwise.

When washed these clothes release tiny plastic microfibres less that 5mm in length. Every time you wash clothing made from synthetic materials, these tiny plastics come out in the wastewater - around 1900 per wash, equating to half a million tonnes each year - 16 times more than plastic micro-beads from cosmetics.

In this image, Dr Richard Kirby, also known as@planktonpundit shows where many of these plastic fibres end up.

We can see a tiny plastic fibre floating around amongst plankton in the ocean. The plankton get caught up in or eat the plastic, which then makes its way up the food chain and onto our plates. And this problem affects more than just your fish finger sandwiches, as plastic has also been found in 90% of commercial table salt and more recently, tiny pieces of plastic have been falling from the sky with snow in the Arctic.

These plastics are so small that once released, there's currently no effective way to stop them from entering our environment. No one knows how these plastics might affect the human body, but no one can argue with the fact that we need to stem the flow of plastic into our oceans.

You can make a difference by making sure the products you buy are made using plants, not plastic.

Every single item of our clothing is made from GOTS certified organic cotton, nothing else. Using super soft cotton makes our clothing comfortable, cool and most importantly clear of those pesky plastic fibres.

We think making tees from natural materials means they feel flipping fantastic, but there’s only one way to find out if you agree.

Check out our range of 100% certified organic cotton products range in our design studio, or for larger orders get a quote now.

We bounced the founders for five quickfire top tips about starting a sustainable business, or making an existing one more sustainable.
In this blog we will discuss the differences between screen and digital printing so that, depending on what you need from your order, you can decide which print method is right for you.
Bamboo is the fastest growing, high yield, low input crop on earth, but bamboo clothing isn’t all it's cracked up to be.
